updates Anne Hird's Weekly Updates 2-5-11 Congratulations to Jen Gilson and family on the birth of Lily, born January 27. Lily was a whopping 9 lbs 12 oz, but Jen has already been out for her first “exercise walk”. We wish Jen and her husband many happy years ahead with their two girls. Many thanks to Rick Ripley for hosting the “first Saturday” run for February. It was great to get out on the bike path, starting from Rick’s home south of the construction. If you didn’t get there, you also missed out on meeting Molly Maguire, Rick’s (in)famous, orthotic-eating pooch. She also intercepts sweaty running socks fast enough to compete in the NFL. Next week, we’ll be back at our usual Olga’s location. Practice schedule Indoor track practice: Brown's varsity softball team has reserved the indoor track from 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM on Monday through Friday. In addition, the varsity track team has reserved the track in the afternoon from 3:00 to 5:30 daily. Therefore, we will offer RMHP club practices for the month of February at the following times: Monday and Thursday mornings - start jogging and stretching at 7:30; be ready to run at 8:00. Be finished by 8:45. Wednesday evenings - start jogging and stretching at 5:45; be ready to run at 6:15. Be finished by 7:00. In addition, if these days/times don't work for you and you are available during the day (mid morning - mid afternoon), contact Bob (401-294-9946) to arrange mutually convenient times. In case of inclement weather, phone 863-3111 to see if Brown is open. Saturday group run: 8:15am Olga's Cup and Saucer, 103 Point Street, Providence, at 8:15am. For more information, see Olga's Facebook page. We will continue to start the first Saturday of every month from a different location. Also, just in case it snows sometime this winter, our snow cancellation policy for the Saturday runs is to go by Providence parking ban—if there is a parking ban in effect, the run is cancelled. But in any event, club members should always use their own best judgment with regard to both driving and running conditions in inclement weather. Looking for Running Partners This Week? Tuesday night track workouts at 5pm at the Hope High School track in Providence. Contact Melissa Fullerton. for questions. If you're not sure if the workout is on (hopefully the snow will be off the track by then), contact Melissa. Bring your own watch if you're aiming for a specific time, as we won't have anyone timing us. Everyone, fast or slow, is welcome. Thursday Night Group Runs – In preparation for St. Patrick’s Day we have decided to move back to McBrides in Wayland Square. Come join us at 6PM every Thursday for the month of February for a run, a post-run beverage or both! We meet inside at the back of the restaurant. Contact Anne Marie if you need more information. Race entries If there is a place to list your team on race entry, remember to put RMHP. If you aren’t sure how to enter our team name for a particular race, contact club president Rick Ripley. club-only race series pitting our diverse membership
against each other for prizes and entertainment. With
the assistance of a complicated and top-secret
algorithm, each member's race times are re-calculated
(based generally on age and gender), and points are
awarded for each race. At the end of the year, points
are calculated from all 8 races and the top 3 members
receiving the most points are announced and reign
victorious until the next RMHP Challenge year.
